Quillsoft Ltd., Toronto, ON Canada, was founded in December 2000 by Dr. Fraser Shein as a private for-profit corporation arising from research and development at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehab which is a co-owner. Holland Bloorview Kids Rehab is Canada's largest children's rehabilitation hospital and a University of Toronto teaching hospital. Holland Bloorview is an international leader in clinical treatments, technologies and real-world programs that give children with disabilities the tools to be active participants in the world. The Holland Bloorview Research Institute is home to Canada's top rehab scientists and engineers, whose clinical discoveries and technological innovations benefit children worldwide.

Quillsoft has the exclusive world-wide license for WordQ and SpeakQ software and their derivatives from Holland Bloorview and is responsible their marketing and distribution for individuals with writing needs. Ongoing research and development of new innovations at Holland Bloorview is being sustained through a close collaborative partnership with Quillsoft contributing royalties, matching research dollars, and in-kind support. Quillsoft also invests directly in its own research and development.
